Aaron Van Dyke & Kyoko Yamamoto team up for the deelish

What a busy morning we had! By 6:45 all seats were full, and by 8:45 we had 80 guests on the waiting list, and had to close for the day to make sure we could get everyone in. Thanks to Aaron and Kyoko, Dan Vernia, and all the really terrific volunteers who showed up while it was still dark and chilly to get breakfast up and running. We still need volunteers for all shifts, so please consider signing up to volunteer on the home page of the website. Thank you!

Aaron and Kyoko offered an amazing breakfast, starting with a cup of warm and spicy Mindo chocolate with milk, then followed by lamb and root vegetable hash (with a delicata squash alternative to the lamb) topped with spicy Selma Cafe home made yogurt, served with a fried egg and a side of autumn salad mix. Wait, there’s more! for dessert, a cup of perfectly textured pumpkin pana cotta with bourbon flavored whipped cream and a salty, sweet caramel wafer packed with sliced and toasted almonds. Yes, I know. Unbelievably delicious from start to end.

Sunseed Farm is continuing to offer their CSA shares, and the goods are gorgeous and capture the season beautifully. Be sure to take a look when you come by for breakfast.

Here’s something new. Selma Cafe is offering the first Evening of Music, Saturday, November 17 in the downstairs yoga studio. Featuring Abigail Alwin & Douglas Lane Allen, Billy King, Rachel Chadderdon Bair, and The Floodlights, with Helen Harding and Kyle Rhodes. Seating is limited, and the response is so positive tickets are now offered in advance, on line through Brown Paper Tickets HERE. Take a look at the Facebook page HERE for more details about what will be a lovely time. All proceeds go to support the cost of Selma Cafe becoming its own 501c3 formal non profit organization. I hope to see you there.

It’s been such an amazing autumn hasn’t it? Enjoy, and I look forward to seeing you in my kitchen soon,

~Lisa

Wow !! Selma Cafe is an amazing outlet for chefs to display their talent in food preparation using local grown food .
Perhaps the spring of 2013 will usher Aaron’s Washingtonian family into the cafe. It is our goal to experience the delightful atmosphere , food , and host of friends within and without the walls of Selma Cafe .
