Thanks to Frita Batidos’ Eve Aronoff, Raunaq Savur, Jeremy Sell, and Chris Chiapelli from The Grange for bringing us a taste of Latin American inspired specials this week, including a Frita sandwich with scrambled egg, hot pepper cheese, tasso ham and bacon with sweet chili mayo on a brioche roll, served with cilantro salsa and shoe string fries, and, Chilaquiles made with softened fried tortillas and a tomatillo sauce served with cheese, black beans and a side of chorizo. Both specials were served with a side of summer salad mix and were both so delicious and satisfying.
Way back before Selma Cafe started, Eve was one of the chefs who was instrumental in getting us off the ground with some really wonderful one-off fundraisers. It’s been a while since Eve cooked for us, and it was a thrill to have her back in the kitchen. If you haven’t had a meal at Frita Batidos yet, be sure to go! You will be happy you did.
Out in the driveway this week we had Sunseed Farm and their CSA pick-up, as well as Real Good Food having their first lunch food swap, and Judi Wilcox, dietitian and life coach sharing samples of her lovely herbal teas.
Thanks also to all the volunteers who came out today and made breakfast happen. We can’t keep Selma Cafe sustainable without volunteer support, and we continue to need more help. Sign up on the home page! Next week we have the Flint Crepe Company in the kitchen. Be sure to come by for breakfast and have some great eats.
Finally, a very special thanks and shout out to waffle maker, bacon fryer, expeditor, Selma Cafe chef and all around best kitchen angel in all the land, Melanie Adams who is moving on to other things. Mel, we love you and we will miss you! Thanks for all your help and support over these last few years.
Until next time, I hope you all are enjoying summer, and looking forward to seeing you around the kitchen soon,
~Lisa
