Thanks to our wonderful chefs this week, Selma Cafe volunteers Megan Witmer and Wesley Ellison, for their creativity, delicious recipes and hard work. They managed to find enough time in their schedules to step up and chef at Selma Cafe for the first time, and they were amazing. 220 guests left Selma full and happy. Serving black bean and sweet potato enchiladas with a creamy cheese sauce, crumbled chorizo and a side of autumn salad mix, and, spicy pumpkin pancakes served with honey sweetened farm cheese, topped with a warm compote of apples and cranberries, these two rocked the kitchen non stop. Thanks to the many volunteers who showed up Thursday evening and Friday morning to make it all come together, especially the clean up crew. We can’t do it without all our volunteers!
In addition to breakfast and Sunseed Farm’s CSA share pick up in the driveway, we also had host Salomon Jost offering home grown, freshly butchered roasting chickens for sale. These birds went fast, and they are absolutely delicious. Salomon will be offering more of these tasty birds for sale on Friday mornings. Want to make sure to end up with one to take home? Contact Salomon directly for more information and to reserve one! You can reach him at: salomongardens@gmail.com
We also had Maya Genson in the house this week offering complementary massage samples to ease your stress and help you feel good. Thanks Maya for your healing hands! Maya will be here for the next few Fridays, so be sure to visit her in the guest room.
NEWS FLASH: Please mark your calendars and save the date for Selma Cafe’s first Evening of Music, on Saturday November 17. Doors open at 7p with music at 7:30p in the yoga studio. Imagine amazing tunes, twinkly lights, soft glow of candles, couch, chair and cushion seating and you’re getting the idea. Suggested donation is $10 per person and seating is limited. Bring your own drinks and I’ll provide glasses, ice and snacks. This first of many musical evenings to follow features Abigail Alwin & Douglas Lane Allen, Billy King of Hollerfest fame, Rachel Chadderdon Bair on guitar and vocals, and the Floodlights, with Helen Harding and Kyle Rhodes. Take a look at the event Facebook page!
Until next time, stay cozy and enjoy the bountiful autumn veggies in abundance at the farmers market. I’m looking forward to seeing you in my kitchen soon,
~Lisa
Wish we could have been there to enjoy another great take on local cuisine and to support the scene. Congratulations on your continuing success, and good luck on your new venture.
