Thanks to long time Selma Cafe volunteers Clare Toeniskoetter and David Riva (4th photo from the top) for their debut breakfast chef perfection this week. They served up Croque Provencal with a local foods spin. Starting with Zingerman’s Bakehouse farm bread, topped with a home made roasted tomato aioli, with tomatoes from Selma Cafe’s own front yard garden, covered with Grassfield Farm’s gouda cheese melted until it was crispy on the edges and the bread was toasty, topped with a slice of Sparrow Meat ham, and a lovely fried egg from Steinwild Garden Farm and Schwartz Family Farm. On the side was a scoop of roasted potatoes from Tantre Farm, and, for the vegetarians, instead of the ham, there was a side of Kapnick Orchard’s butternut squash. And, of course, a side of hoop house salad mix from Seeley Farm. It was a delicious and toothsome breakfast on such a dark and rainy day. Thanks also to all the volunteers who came out to help. Selma Cafe can’t do it without you!
News around here includes our new weekly offering of Roos Roast De-caf blend for those of you looking to keep your nervous system in check while still enjoying all the deliciousness of an excellent cup of joe. And, we continue to offer Arbor Teas black and green tea for the many tea drinkers who come to breakfast. Both Roos Roast and Arbor Teas are offering lovely gift ideas for the holidays. Be sure to keep them in mind for any gift giving you will be doing.
Please remember that Selma Cafe is closing for two weeks during the holidays on Friday Dec. 28 and Friday Jan. 4, and will reopen with Chef Dan Vernia at the helm (per usual for the first Selma Cafe of the new year) on Friday January 11.
Looking forward to seeing you for the next two Friday mornings here at Selma Cafe. Until then, as you think about purchasing gifts for loved one and friends, please consider shopping locally. We have an amazing assortment of small shops and galleries, artisans, crafts people and food makers who create beautiful things and help keep our community financially viable. Additionally, Selma Cafe has breakfast gift certificates for $15 each.
Stay cozy friends, be well, and see you in my kitchen soon,
~Lisa
